The Starcki Damsel is an excellent option for novice aquarists due to its more subdued temperament, and not requiring an excessive tank size. In addition, it is a suitable choice for reef aquariums due to its peaceful nature towards invertebrates, as well as its dietary preference for zooplankton and algae. To ensure a harmonious environment, it is recommended to only keep one Starcki Damsel per tank unless it is particularly large. Finally, keep in mind that these damsels are aggressive towards their own kind, and so should not be housed with others of their species.
A varied diet is essential for an optimal level of health for marine fish, so it is important to provide a range of meaty items for them. Mysis shrimp and vitamin-enriched brine shrimp are excellent choices for a balanced diet. Additionally, it is beneficial to provide a variety of frozen, freeze-dried, and live foods to ensure a complete nutritional profile. Doing so will ensure that your fish remain healthy, active, and vibrant. Furthermore, offering a variety of foods will provide enrichment and help to reduce the risk of fin-nipping and other aggressive behaviors.
