The Bamboo Shark is an ideal species for the home aquarium due to its manageable size and undemanding care requirements. It is a bottom dwelling shark that eats any crustacean. As an adult, this species requires at least a 300 gallon aquarium with a sand substrate to avoid potential damage to its abdomen. Additionally, it should never be exposed to copper-based medications, as this could be detrimental to its health. With the right environment and care, the Bamboo Shark is a rewarding species to keep in the home aquarium.

It is important to acclimate the shark to aquarium life by introducing it to its environment with small, quality food items. When first introduced, cleaned squid and live saltwater feeder shrimp are excellent enticements. Once the shark is comfortable with its environment, it can be fed a variety of food items such as shrimp, scallops, and fresh marine fish. To ensure that the shark is receiving the optimal nutrition, whole cockles in the shell, fresh shrimp, squid, and frozen mussels are ideal. Additionally, it is essential to feed the shark on a regular schedule to ensure that it is healthy and thriving.

The approximate purchase size for a small, medium, or large size is 5″, 7″, or 10″.
