The Guentheri Killifish is an ideal choice for novice aquarists, due to its ease of care and adaptability to different water conditions. This species prefers a heavily planted aquarium, and softer water that is slightly acidic, allowing for a more natural environment. Moreover, the Guentheri Killifish is known for its hardiness and can make a great addition to any established aquarium. With the appropriate care, these fish can live for approximately 5 years.

This species of Killifish is an annual species, so it’s important to be aware of their specific needs. A breeding tank is ideal with a 2-3 inch layer of peat at the bottom to ensure the fish can bury their eggs. After spawning, be sure to remove the peat containing the eggs and press out any excess water. Place the moist peat with the eggs in a plastic bag or sealed jar and keep it at room temperature for 3 to 4 months. At the end of this period, add tank water back to the peat to hatch the fry. It’s essential to provide the fry with a small holding tank and feed them live baby brine shrimp. Furthermore, regular water changes and a high quality diet will ensure they grow to their full potential.

This fish is very good at accepting live foods, such as brine shrimp, white worms, tubifex, and some dry flake and frozen foods.
