The Fire Eel is a great addition to any larger aquarium. Not only does it provide a stunning visual, but its behavior can be quite fascinating. It is important to remember that a soft substrate is essential for the Fire Eel to be able to dig and bury itself. Additionally, decorations and plants should be securely anchored in the substrate to prevent them from being uprooted. Furthermore, a tight lid should be used to protect the Fire Eel from any potential escapes. Lastly, the Fire Eel should only be kept with fish of similar size and larger to ensure a peaceful aquarium environment.
Despite the lack of information on Fire Eel breeding habits, we can confidently suggest that they rely on water temperature and depth to initiate spawning. Additionally, Fire Eels are known to migrate upstream during the springtime to reproduce, indicating an environmental influence on their breeding habits. Furthermore, Fire Eels are observed to release their eggs into the water column in large numbers, which is a typical behavior of fish species in general. As such, we can assume that Fire Eels follow the same breeding patterns as other fish species and that they are likely influenced by environmental factors.
A carnivore, such as the Fire Eel, should feed on live foods. These can include earthworms and black worms, as well as prepared tablet foods and krill and ocean plankton. Some of these foods may eventually be accepted by the Fire Eel.
