The Rainbow Celebes will thrive in an aquarium with plenty of open swimming space, as well as lush plants for hiding places and visual appeal. It is important to maintain stable water conditions, as they are quite sensitive to fluctuations. Regular water changes and monitoring of parameters will ensure a healthy environment for the fish. Adding a few hiding places, such as caves or driftwood, can also provide a safe haven for the Rainbow Celebes. Moreover, adding a gentle filtration system will help to keep the water clean and clear for them.
Spawning can be triggered by changes in water temperature and pH levels. The eggs are laid on the underside of leaves or flat stones, and the female will guard them until hatching. The male will often guard the female and the eggs as well. With proper care, the fry can reach maturity in about twelve weeks.
Although Celebes Rainbows have large mouths, their throats tend to be narrow, making it difficult for them to consume large pieces of an omnivore diet. Small pieces of a prepared diet of algae, flakes, or live food should be fed to them.
