This fish is an excellent choice for a community aquarium, especially one with plenty of plants, rocks, caves, and driftwood. It flourishes when kept in a small school with other peaceful fish of a similar size. Furthermore, it is essential to cover the tank since this fish is known for its tendency to jump. To ensure proper care, regular water changes and tank maintenance are necessary. Additionally, a well-established biological filter should be used to maintain the water parameters and provide a healthy environment for this fish.

Nomorhamphus liemi is a unique species that breeds and matures in shallow, soft, slightly acidic water. After a gestation period that typically ranges from six to eight weeks, the female will give birth to roughly ten, 3/4-inch fry. To ensure the fry reach maturity, small pieces of live food or infusoria should be fed to them regularly. Additionally, it is important to keep the water clean and to ensure the pH levels remain slightly acidic. With the right care, the fry can reach adulthood within 8-10 months.

The Celebes Half Beak is a carnivore and should be fed live foods or frozen foods, freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, as well as high quality flake foods.
